The Problem We Saw
A crisis hiding in plain sight
In Nigeria, millions of people make health decisions every day, but far too many of those decisions are guided by misinformation, superstition, or simply the absence of any reliable information at all.
This is not a failure of intelligence. It is a failure of communication. The medical and public health community has largely spoken in a language that most Nigerians, particularly those in informal settlements, rural areas, and low-income urban neighbourhoods, cannot easily access or understand.
The consequences are real and measurable: preventable diseases going undetected; treatable conditions becoming life-threatening; life-saving vaccines being refused; and a profound distrust of healthcare institutions that can take generations to reverse.
This is the problem HealthXplain Foundation was built to address.
Our Story
From conversation to movement
HealthXplain Foundation was established in September 2025 by Onifade Olawunmi Feyisayo, after years of first-hand experience witnessing how health illiteracy played out in Nigerian communities: in markets, in homes, in hospital waiting rooms where patients left without understanding their diagnosis.
The foundation began not with a grand launch, but with a simple commitment: go where people are, and speak in a way they can hear. Our first community engagement at Oyingbo Market in Lagos confirmed what we had long suspected: the hunger for accessible, honest health information was enormous.
Today, HealthXplain Foundation is building the infrastructure for a healthier, better-informed Nigeria through direct community engagement, digital content, partnerships with health institutions, and a relentless focus on telling the stories that change minds and save lives.

To democratise access to health information in Nigeria and across Africa, breaking down complex medical concepts into clear, culturally relevant, and actionable knowledge that empowers individuals and communities to take control of their health.

A Nigeria, and eventually an Africa, where every person, regardless of their educational background, income level, or geographic location, has access to the health information they need to live a full, dignified life.
Why It Matters
The stakes are high
Nigeria is the most populous nation in Africa, home to over 220 million people. Yet its public health infrastructure remains severely under-resourced, and health literacy levels remain critically low across many demographic groups.
Low health literacy is directly linked to higher rates of preventable disease, maternal and infant mortality, vaccine hesitancy, and chronic illness mismanagement. It widens inequality, deepens poverty cycles, and places enormous strain on an already strained healthcare system.
Closing this gap is not just a health priority; it is an economic, social justice, and human rights priority. HealthXplain Foundation works at this intersection: where information becomes empowerment, and empowerment becomes transformation.
